America’s #1 Killer

Narcissism is the number one killer of joy in America today.  It is a cheater, a thief, a liar, a master manipulator, and a really good-looking guy all wrapped into one.  It’s the guy that tells you how great you are to your face, all while he’s checking out the waitress behind you.  It’s the guy who defends the girl at work he’s been sleeping with while he picks on you for never doing enough.  He’s the guy who’s starting arguments with you mid-week so he can free up his weekend to go find more women to feed his ego.  It’s the guy who kicks you out of your shared home, then claims that you left him.  It’s the guy who isolates you from his friends by telling them lies about you.  Then just because he’s that sick, he’ll tell you that his friends don’t like you…just to make you feel even worse about yourself.

Narcissism isn’t about being vain like most people think, although it is true that most narcissists care only about themselves.  It’s about control and bullying.  On the outside, they portray a loving, giving, caring persona-but this is only to draw in their victims.  Once you’ve said I love you, and they make you feel safe and loved like never before – the switch happens.  They will begin the control and brainwashing.  You’ll start to wonder what went wrong.  We used to be so happy?  But that’s what they want.  They need you to stay off balance and unsure about everything.  They need you to be miserable.  Because sadly, THEY are miserable.  Narcissism is found in those who don’t truly love or like themselves.  They believe that they are a product of their environment.  This way there’s no personal accountability or responsibility for any of their actions.  They use everyone around them in one way or another.  If you’re so fortunate to be an acquaintance of one, you’ll probably get treated pretty well with good tips, compliments, funny stories, encouragement – oh, and don’t forget flirting.  But if you’re in a relationship with one, you better have a good support system around you.  Once they’ve isolated you from every person and thing they claimed to have included you in, you can really start to think you’re crazy.
